Marty Wayne

Magical Entertainment You Can Sink Your Teeth Into

How The Secret World of Secrets Happened

During the fall of 2007, Darren Flores, (a junior at the University of Colorado Denver’s College of Arts and Media), started pre-production for a documentary short about the lives of two magicians and their lives outside of magic. He first contacted Marty Wayne, who immediately jumped on board with the project. Darren next contacted, Jonathan Levit, pitched him the idea, and he too jumped on board with the project.

Months later Darren took his friends Stephen Lambert (Director of Photography) and Andrew Moraski (Audio Engineer) on a journey to Florence, Colorado to begin filming. They interviewed Marty and filmed his magic gig at Pizza Madness in Canon City, Colorado later that evening. One month later Darren and Stephen took a trip out to Hollywood, California where they filmed Jonathan Levit on location at Magic Castle. The next day they ventured to Pasadena, California where they interviewed Jonathan and finished production on the documentary.

Darren, now faced his biggest challenge yet, post-production. Darren and his crew had shot over ten hours of footage, which he had to condense into a twenty-minute short for school. It took several months of editing, color correction, and audio sweetening, for Darren to make his idea come to life. After watching hours of footage over and over, and going through almost ten different edits of the film, Darren had, what they call in Hollywood, “picture lock”.

“The Secret World of Secrets”, explores how Jonathan Levit and Marty Wayne first discovered magic and why they have kept it apart of their lives all these years. It also explores their lives outside magic and their day-to-day professions.

"The Secret World of Secrets" will be premiering Wednesday, April 7th at 5:00 pm at the Creekside Cinema in Cañon City, Colorado. This premier is free to the public, but seats are going fast.
